New in Avilion April 29, 2008

There are a lot changes going in my home land of Avilion. This is the new Forest of L’Renden, home to the Drow of Avilion. L’Renden was formally cavernous, but is now hidden amongst huge trees. The Drow celebrate Eilistrae here in the temple. You love Avilion for it’s beauty and romance, but you have taken it for granted. You need to see the evolving history for yourself!

Busy Elf. January 28, 2008

I’ll be guest posting at the Avilion Order blog, leaving the Double Entendre to my alter ego. I’m so excited! The Avilion sims are busy and I love being a part of it. I knew somehow that I would find my niche. I struggled with the idea of trying to write for an SL publication - now the struggle is over. There is a lot of work to do there, and my ambition is to make the Avilion Order blog a valuable resource for anyone interested in becoming a part of the Order and to those who are currently members. Wish me well.
An Avilion Weekend. January 22, 2008

Th
e weekend began this past Friday evening with building instruction from Lady Kendall Dagger. The little crystal table I managed to assemble under her expert tutelage is below. It isn’t much - but an elf has to start somewhere!
The next morning started with jousting practice and instruction. I can still feel the wind whistling through the holes that were poked through me. I found another battle skill that I am really bad at. It does take practice though. If there are any jousting Knights out there who have any tips for me, let me know. I seem to have a problem with staying a respectable distance from the list without leaning to far in. The idea is to aim toward the opponents knee, which will also steer my horse in that direction. I have to aim and keep from leaning to far toward my target. Lady Blynn fondly says that she makes swiss cheese of her opponents. She is certainly proudly wearing a few pieces of me on her lance!
Deep in the caves of Avilion, close to where the underdark emerged so long ago, the Drow laid in a modern swimming pool. They invited all mystical beings of the Order to swim and laid character to rest just for a couple of hours. One of the Drow appeared to be so afraid of drowning that she waded hip deep in water wearing full scuba gear. The Drow are not usually so concerned.
I’m sorry to have missed the concert, performed by Silas Scarborough. I did get to Druid Training later in the day on Sunday where battle practice took place. It was only the second in our training and it seems that there is still much to learn. A few of us took it upon ourselves to drill and learn more about healing within the Spellfire combat system. We feel a little more confident in our healing abilities now.
I heard some of the chatter and excitement about the rollout of Havoc 4 to the areas included in testing. We were all looking forward to understand the differences this would make to our world before our excitement was very quickly tempered. We wait for the magic to happen now.
It was a busy few days in the life of an Avilion Guardian of the Mist.

I just spent a little time watching some experienced sword fighters have some fun at sparring. I think that they would have allowed me in the arena. It would have been wonderful practice for me, because I am so clumsy at it. I was itching to try out the new weaponry I just purchased from the Stone Keep forge. Druids must use certain weapons during call to arms and having healing abilities. The reason I didn’t? My vision is too limited.
The desktop tower blew up a couple of months ago, so Second Life has been navigated on a 13″ laptop. It does the job, believe it or not. The laptop is wonderful for writing activities such as this blog, but does not allow enough power or visual area to participate in battle or some other Avilion activities. I really want/need another desktop with a better NVidia graphics card to make navigating Second Life better. I just don’t know how to manage the funds to do it right now.
*sigh*

An evening of music. The lovely Lady Fable Sinatra performed at the Avilion Drum Circle this evening from 5pm to 6pm. She is picking up some outer world work and making a demonstration recording, which - I’m sad to report - means that she will not spend many more weekends with us.
I love her blue personalized guitar. My portraiture is getting better, but you still can’t see the flowers and butterflies painted on the front. Her avatar name, which is her son’s name, is at the bottom. She tells me that the guitar was made for her by a friend.

What winter wonderland is complete without a gingerbread house? If the picture is crooked it’s Lord Luiss Pera’s fault, he is throwing snowballs at me and telling me that my face looks funny!

Druidry Avilion Style- Druid Training Notes. December 18, 2007

Lady Zarkela’s Druidry training went ahead last night, though we had very few show up this week. The assignment this week is to write a report on Five Finger Grass! The research I’ve done so far is pretty interesting. I appreciate the reference to actual Druid practice and philosophy in our role play.
We also discussed the Druids role as healer during Call To Arms. The consensus seems to be that having more than one Druid staff on hand to switch when the powers of one have been depleted is encouraged. Druids may also use daggers, and quarter staffs as fighting tools. Druids should play the role of healer, but should defend themselves, of course.
